Falling Springs/Big Springs Franklin/Cumberland County 7/24/08

I started out at the Heritage Area on Falling Springs (Edwards Ave). I managed one tiger trout about 12" on a beadhead olive bugger right at the first deep pool. Further down in the meadow, I also hooked-up with a 12" rainbow on a Foam Yellow Jacket #14. From there, I went on down to the DHALO area to try my luck. Using a Foam Beetle, Foam Cricket, honeybug and Chartreuse Glo-Bug, I managed six fish out of one stretch. I had one pig of a brown (20"+) on for about five minutes before he snapped my 6x and took my cream honeybug with him. I went home for a little lunch and then hit Big Spring. I managed ten fish here-eight brookies and two rainbows from the Ditch and the lower project water. None of the fish were big, but then I don't fish for size-just color. All of the fish were taken on a yellow cressbug with 3 micro shot about four inches above the fly with the exception of the brookie pictured which took the Foam Yellow Jacket. As a side note, the lower project water could use more cover. The water was frigid as I waded in sandals, but the cover is really lacking. I picked up two rainbows which were hiding under some mid-stream boulders. Other than those two, the fish were really few and far between down there. I will most likely be back there this evening to see if I am missing something as I have been told there are more fish down there than I encountered. If the pics are lousy, it is because I got one of those cheap $20 digital Vivitar mini-cameras. I plan on getting one from Olympus that is shock and waterproof in the very near future so picture quality should improve shortly. Tight Lines
