Falling Springs 3/21/2007

Went there for large wild trout and came away with a 17" stocked rainbow that fought like it was caught 10 mins earlier and 2 Tigers at 20" to 22" that fought like the hybrids they are. Scuds and my precious Gander crayfish ofcourse. Had a very nice wild looking rainbow coming to inspect my crayfish when the 20" Tiger came bullying on over and scared him off. Also saw 2 other very large Tigers on top of it. What is up with that? Tigers are from what I understand the VERY worst to introduce to introduce to wild populations. Extremely voracious. So far I've caught them here, Clarks and Fishing (Clinton). All of course with very nice wild populations.
Catch trout like that and I'm complaining. If it weren't for them, I might have been skunked. Bugger is if I wanted to catch stockies I would have just went to Clarks or the Breeches, not the hour and 10 mins to get to Falling Springs.

Photo above was the 22" with this the 20". Just cant really see them to well. Shots beneath the water on this stream dont seem to go too well with the missing canopy of trees overhead. Heritage section.

Exactly, I spent about 2 hours at a local extended season stockie lake, wed morning, catching about 30 big fat club stocked rainbows. Olive green wooly buggers, including the one I got in the swap from govtmule (sorry, some fish is wearing it as jewelry now). Its fun, the creeks here are out of their banks, it was 65 degrees...what else you gonna do! Besides, its fun to watch the powerbait guys faces get red when you hold up a 20 incher and go, "well, thats a little better, huh?" after just releasing an 18 incher 2 minutes before.

HAHA!! Nice fish but I gotta say, I fish that quite a bit and never came away with a tiger trout, I swear you must of caught the only two in there!!!!!

Yeah, last time I caught one there I remarked about that biologists report.( See fishing reports "Falling springs surprise". ) But I tell you I saw 2 completely different tigers in which one was probably the other 22"er and another that looked even bigger and definatley more brilliant in color. If I tell you exactly where, I fear I will be executed.

I know this topic is a bit old but I know exactly what fish and where youre talking about. 4 or 5 years ago they were scattered throughout about 3/4 of a mile of stream and it was nothing to catch 5+ in an afternoon. I caught the 22"er last year and when I first hooked him I thought it was a big brown, for me he made a big run up stream and then just kind of played dead. When I got him in I wasnt too suprised to see it. About a month later he moved 100 yards downstream and hes been laying there ever since and I hear of people catching him all the time. They are the "last" of the ones that will be in the stream since the nursery is no longer being used. I talked to the guy that shocked the stream the day after he did it and he said they stopped in at the old nursery and there were still "dozens" of giant brood trout in there. Every time we get a lot of rain it seems like 1 or 2 of them wash downstream, but I normally see them dead within a month, but im pretty suprised that tiger has made it this long.
