Falling Spring, Limekiln Dr., 11/06/09

First post BTW....I fished Falling Spring tonight from around 3:45ish 'til dark. I fished from Limekiln Dr. up to behind Mcdonald's. Spooked a monster before I could even cast to him, maybe 20"+. Not much activity on the stream, fishing was tough until just before dark. I ended up landing one wild brown and missed a few. Caught the brown stripping a Olive/Black bugger through a small plunge pool. Nice evening on the stream working on my casting a bit.

Welcome to the board and thanks for the report. Ive fished down that way on FS a few times. I just cant get out of the Heritage Area. I love that stretch of stream 🙂

I was there 2 weekends ago. Humbly, I believe it to be one of the toughest streams I have ever fished. 2+ hours of fishing and landed only one 8" rainbow.

FS is probably definitely one of the hardest streams that I have fished. I felt great when I caught my first FS trout. I have seen some huge fish in that stream that I usually spook before ever getting close enough to cast to. And Sal... I normally graivitate toward geisels meadow behind the funeral home home when I go. Caught my first FS trout there and usually do well there, so its hard to leave that stretch. I figured I'd try the "town" section a little bit. The hole on Limekiln Dr. behind the gazeebo always holds trout. I counted 13 laying on the bottom there a few weeks ago. But apparently they weren't eating what I was throwing at them.

Stream was hard today. Had guy hook some but none landed. One was a trout Mike could not get off the bottom. But man no rising trout with some amazing BWO's hatching. Some of the best I have seen in years.

Been good. A little busy guiding. Getting the hunting fever now. Getting ready for the fly fishing shows and book signings. So what is up with you and did you see and BWO's yesturday? I don't try to fish hard this time of year with the spawing browns.

I did see a few BWOs but it seemed that they disappeared within 5 minutes of me being there. While they were there, they seemed very abundant. But there was nothing rising so I stayed sub-surface. I spooked a monster right by the bridge on Limekiln Dr. I think he's been living under that bridge for a while because he was so dark he seemed almost black. Huge broad-shouldered fish. I went back this morning for about 2 hours, missed one, but that was about it. I was getting hunting fever a little bit too, but I always feel that if I have the time to go hunting, I'll be sitting in the woods thinking about fishing. I plan on fishing with you again maybe in the spring.
