Falling Spring Branch, Franklin Co, 10/23/11

Caught 3 and missed 2 this afternoon in the meadows. Great day to be out and there were lots of bugs hatching but nothing really rising. The first one I caught on an orange and gray scud, missed one on a tan caddis dry, caught one on the same pattern, missed another one on an olive and gray scud, and landed a fat 15 inch bow on a sculpin before I left. That one was fun to pull out from under a bridge...just throw the fly (literally) in the water, let it drift, feed some line and bingo got a nice one on. I don't know if it's just me but I think that stream fishes better in the late afternoon than it does in the morning.

I dunno about morning vs afternoon overall. For me it has fished great in the summer during early mornings. Fall very well could be different.

Stream flows south to north and as winter approaches the angle of sun becomes lower and from the south - right in the trout's eyes. Early morning before the sun really comes up and then later in day but that 8am to 11am period due to sun's angle can be a killer in the fall/winter and not even worth fishing unless you just want to get out and get some fresh air.

That is a good point. Funny thing was I was using the sun to my advantage and didn't put 2 and 2 together. I guess I was too focused on what I was doing...I did have problems losing my dry on the water's glare.
