This is a D*i*c*kerson 8013 taper rod that I built myself. It's a faster taper by bamboo standards and a true 5 weight (you could also get away with a 6 weight line). Attractive brown wraps and a maple burl downlocking reel seat. Both sections are straight (by bamboo standards) and the rod is in excellent condition, BUT, it's not perfect. Notably, there are some visible glue seams in the butt section and the epoxy on one of the ferrules has separated slightly (the ferrule itself is still fine). I've used the rod a dozen times and it performs brilliantly, but I didn't want anyone to be surprised that it's not as perfect as a $2000 custom rod. It will come with a rod sock and a White River cordura rod tube. $350 plus $30 shipping within or near to Pennsylvania. It's signed by the builder (me) and would be excellent for someone that wants to try a bamboo rod, but who is more comfortable fishing faster graphite rods (versus very slow bamboo). I'd consider trades, but really have my eye on a Hardy Aydon travel rod and would prefer to sell outright. I'd also be willing to meet in North Central PA if someone wanted to string it up and cast

it before purchasing.

Yes, 2/1 configuration (which is 2 piece with one tip for those who may not know). Weight on my kitchen scale is 4.2 ounces.

I'm pretty sure that I used the taper in the Lovely Reed, but as noted, it weighs 4.2 ounces, which I think would be pretty typical for an 8' 5 weight cane rod.

A Hardy Aydon travel rod would be a nice father's day present and the ability to keep your hand made fly rod in your family.
I've built boats years ago and wish someone in my family would have helped me out in keeping one of the boats I built.

I didn't remember, but after looking at the photos, I see that it was #5. I've only built 6 or 7, but finally have some of the kinks worked out that always take a while to learn when you start something new. I'd like to build a few more, but I don't have all of my own tools, so I'm at a buddy's mercy when I ask to borrow his tools. This one is a nice build, nice and straight and it fishes well, but it does have a few warts, as described above. Still a really good buy for someone wanting to try bamboo or for someone familiar with bamboo but who's only used the softer 7' 3 and 4 weight types.

Both the 1949 taper and the 1951 tapers were published in the "Lovely Reed." Based on your description as "...a bit more power than some bamboo rods," I have a feeling it is the 1949 taper.

Yeah, I honestly don't recall and would have to look at the tapers again and give it some thought (or measure the blank). I seem to recall that one of the two was more highly regarded by most and I think I went with that taper, but it's been a while and I don't recall exactly. Most of my other bamboo rods (all of them really) are either 3 or 4 weights and seem a bit more "finessy" than this one, but this one really casts well and as I mentioned before, just seems to have more "power" both for fighting fish and for casting, but it casts very well with a true to weight 5 or a 6 weight line.

The weight seems in line to me.

Just reviewed my notes, and my 7'6" Montague Fishkill (2/2, but I have a 3rd tip) which is a sweet do-all/dry action, working 5wt DT line, comes in @ 4.27 oz.

Granted, action is about more that just weight; and my Monty is a factory rod. Still, just saying the math on the weight there works out for me, based on my experience with cane.
