Erie Tribs 11/13-11/16. Erie County PA

Took a friend on his first hunt for chrome. We began at Elk creek above region hole in AM and found extremely low clear water. We were able to land 1 a piece. Moved to 20 mile in the PM and found many more fish that were a little less spooky. Managed a few. Day 2 back at 20 mile. More fish landed but very hard to come by due to water conditions. Ended up running to the truck as the sheets of rain and hail began to fall. Day 3 we found ourselves at 16 mile as it was the only trib that was not unfishable. Had our best day of the trip. Many fresh chrome landed mainly on pink, orange, and yellow/chartreuse egg patterns, including the largest brown I had ever seen landed. The final 1/2 day we made our way back to 20mile and again had lots of luck on egg patterns. All in all great trip. Around 60 fish landed between two of us, all were released to fight another day!!

Those are both great fish - the steelhead is really a brute!

Great report. I'm headed up on Friday and the conditions look to be prime. I've been after a brown on my few trips up there and have been unsuccessful so far. Maybe this trip will be different.

RAIN is the key!!!!!! Spike in water, go up then. Fish every stream as it just becomes fishable. A good blow out gives you 3-4 days of excellent fishing if you time everything right.

Well Ryan I hope your honeymoon wasn't as crowded as Erie might be Friday. I may bump into you, and/or bikerfish. I too am hoping for a nice big brown.

yeah, I think it may be a zoo. I'm thinking of waiting till monday or tuesday to go up, water will be down, but crowds will be as well.
I'll just see what friday brings.

great post nic e fish congrats.Instead of eating t day dinner i should be over on the ribs im only 2 hrs away at one of my deer camps,fiance misssed one of three toms this morning other two got away with out a shot.
I hope moday i get a buck then i can get over there.

I did this trip on Black Friday, 11/25/2011. I would say water conditions were darn near perfect. Air temp got to mid-50s. Clear sky, so some cloud cover would have been a bit better, but geeze it was pretty much prime Imo.
I fished 20 mile in the AM, ran into Bingsbait, (I recognized the stogie from a photo someone posted here). I parked at the pepper/ pumpkin patch field, (with about forty other cars, truck, SUVs) and covered a good bit of ground. Landed one small fish on an egg pattern.
Just drove around to a few spots in the afternoon. Walnut is a circus. I could never do that schtick.
Then moved over to Elk in the afternoon. Folleys, hooked up 3 times, on a Prince nymph, Zero landed. I can't even say all three were fairly hooked, as two fish did that sort a ballistic manuver were for an instant, it seems two fish are hooked not one, but you end up just holding the slack rod and the line is draped around your head.
The trip was decent, but crowded. IMHO Steelhead fishing is a great way to make new friends as there is always no shortage of opportunities to do so.

Ohh I married the right girl. That is for sure. Maybe an over exaggeration a bit :-D but prime conditions for steelhead get the juices going for me.

Fishing was fairly good on Friday btw... I'll put a post up once I get some pics off my camera.
