So after fly fishing for over 50 years it’s time for a confession. I was raised Catholic, by the way, and I have the scars on my knuckles to prove it. I have never fished a fly intentionally tied as a emerger. I have fished a thorax tied Adams with the hackle cut flush on the bottom but nothing approaching a Klinkhammer. I hope to make my penance by tying and fishing a sulfur emerger this May on Spring Creek. Forgive me Dave Kyle for I have sinned.

Come fish the Mo and they wont eat anything but dead emergers and cripples. It doesn't matter many other places... but when it matters, it matters a lot. Then extend that logic to that one 20 inch fish you've seen rise but can't friggin catch.

I carry em now. DaveS ties the best ones. Spent and shucked.

My biggest issue with fishing emergers is trying to track the fly. Admittedly I have the same problem with small dry flies. Obviously this is less of an issue when fishing down and across, but it’s a problem for me when fishing a dead drift.
