I was recently asked and a good Q&A for all.
"Which box do I check or uncheck to prevent posting notifications on my email? I'm in here frequently enough to make notifications unnecessary."
Under Your Name (right hand upper corner), the drop down menu offers and option to select Preferences. Under Settings you can the check on or check off Email options and Content notifications.
