Fighting the snow, we headed up to Erie on Black Friday. Joining with us was a buddy of mine, a new found steelhead fisherman. He blanked on his first trip with me on March but had a blast, even though he poured about 2 cups of water out of his waders after he wussed out around 2pm. We got there at 7am and the water was high, but with good color. I came prepared and didn't feel the cold the whole day, but my other crew members were whining and complaining the whole car ride home of how they still couldn't feel their feet. All in all, it was a good day. With snow showers here and there, the weather pretty much cooperated. My buddy and I fished down stream past the few S turns to a large cliff side where we both hooked into 2 fish in the first 20 minutes there. We had NO luck anywhere else up until that. This is probably close to 2 miles downstream. There were minimal hook ups and most people I saw were getting skunked. We fished our way back to the camp ground and both had several hookups right at the cliffside by the campground. My buddy ended up landing 3 fish to my 1.... never again will I lose!! lol We packed up 3 total fish and headed back home. Not before stopping at my other fishing buddy's dad's house to get a class on how to fillet a steelhead. Of course they used mine as the example and butchered it pretty good. But it's in the smoker now, so I can't complain too much. Had a great time on the stream and will head back atleast 1 more time this year to get a bunch of slabs so we can smoke them for our annual wild game dinner at the church in March.
