Fished the same section of the stream I did last week for a few hours in the rain. Fished from about 6:30 to 10:30. There was a steady drizzle the whole day, but the conditions were pretty good. It seems like the first hour of sunlight is the best fishing. I had 8 hookups in the first hour with no fish landed. I think it had to do with a combination of barbless hooks and the raising water levels. Seemed like the fish ran a bit more, and a whole lot quicker upon hooking them than last week. I had a few get away from me and as soon as a little bit of slack was in the line, they tossed the hook. Need to be quicker in the water, but I'd rather lose a fish than take a dunk in some of those slippery sections. Ended up fishing about a mile downstream and a mile upstream without any luck. There was atleast half of the amount of fish in the stream compared to last week, which I thought was odd because the water levels were going up. I managed to hook one when the "5 more mintues then we have to go" phraze came up. Landed him 2 minutes later so went home happy and un-skunked. Had most of my hookups in 2 honey holes that I caught several fish in last week too. Got 3 hours of sleep the night before so I'm glad we didn't stay too long, but it was nice to get out. I'll be back out on Black Friday to fish again. Overall it was worth the 4 hours of driving for 4 hours of fishing.
btw of the 7 fish I've caught so far this year, I don't recall one being under 23/24 inches. Pretty good sized fish this year.
