If you want to escape crowds a bit, go upstream. In Elk, fish are all the way upstream to where it crosses I-79 and beyond.
That said, you NEVER really escape crowds, only the "ridiculous" crowds at the mouth.
I usually combine a hunting and fishing trip. But with needing to hunt through Wed. to fill the freezer, and all the rain we got, I just came home sans fishing and saved a vacation day or two.
