I Finly got for the first time today. elk creek was still iced up a few small open pockets of water but its not relly fishable at the legion. I fished crooked creek today and it was pretty clear just some ice on a couple of big holes. i broke some up to fish a few holes. did not see a lot of fish they are pretty spread out. once all the ice is gone it should get better. about noon the snow melt brought the water up some and turned it a little dirty. hooked three and landed two. very light takes.

Always wondered, how do you go about breaking the ice up?? Just wade through it or do ya take a shovel or something?

When I was a younger guy and had more traction in the lower gears, I used to de-ice pools this way fairly often. The ones I most often cleared were the lower end of the bridge abutment pool at Folly's End on Elk and the pool below Buttermilk Falls on the Wal-a-noot.

Break it out, go sit down and smoke a part of a cigar or scratch your butt for 5-10 minutes and then get up and fish it. It worked well.

The fish are pretty stupid. At least those fish were..
