Well the weather report showed it would be cold, but no precip, so I headed out with 5 buddies early in the morning. We got to Folly's camp ground and one guy hooked up in the first 5 minutes. Figured it might not be that bad of a day... boy were we wrong! At Folley's there were large ice chunks floating down the stream. Boy was it wierd wading and having large chunks of ice run into you. We continued to defrost out lines and reels over a portable heater, but it was a lost cause. No one caught any fish so we decided to relocate to the Nut house. The picture below shows the ride between the streams and how bad the ice was on my line.
Walnut was slightly better, but not much. Most of us had hookups there, but all in all no one landed a fish all day. There were a few guys there, but hardly any fish landed. there was a good sized group of fish at the lowest of the log jams, but I literally spent 30 minutes straight using my forceps to get the ice off my line so my fly could have a chance at sinking. Our feet were frozen, our hope broken, and our manliness tested. All in all, I can honestly say I had a good day 🙂
Beats shopping!
