Fished Elk Creek a couple times after the rain, and had good success while fishing different sections of the creek.
Crowds over the past week were tolerable (almost non-existant in some cases!) - and the few folks I did meet were great sportsman. Met guys from several areas that had far more travel time than myself, so I felt 'lucky', and enjoyed chatting with them while on the stream.
Fish took a variety of flies - copper johns were the hot ticket one day, while egg-sucking leech (wine colored), eggs, and prince nymphs all turned a few few as well. Thursday (Dec 2) proved to be the 'numbers' day, while Friday, Dec 3 rewarded me with a very nice male that cartwheeled out of the water (probably about 38 degrees) that truly was quite a rush! Hooked into that big one literally after landing a smaller 18" 'skipper' just two or three cast before - the contrast in their battles really woke me up. And, for a refreshing change, the big one didn't get away - at least long enough for a picture as he was released, along with all the others.
Never got above freezing, and roads were a little slick on Friday AM, but streams held up well and lets hope the weatherman misses on the long range forecast for Erie County.....forecast is calling for even colder temps with perhaps more significant snow events, so not sure if I'll have many more steelhead days left.
On a side note - the last day I fished was by "Millers Landing" - ie the old "Whiteman's Bridge" area. Looks like a forester is harvesting quite a few of the (big) trees adjacent to the access area (private property). Dodged several large tree limbs that went floating downstream while forester was cutting away......

Not many guys out - took several out of this hole, but this was the only one that cooperated for a pic
Found a "honey hole" around 2 PM -
Action died after 3 PM - but the better part of an hour it was almost non-stop action - egg sucking leech was the "fly of the hour!"

Dusk and snow hit about the same time - but one last fish before tracking back to the car.....
Elk Creek on Dec 3 - saw maybe 5 guys all day
This male took an oregon cheese egg pattern, and the first time he 'rolled' (before his acrobatic jump) I swear it had shoulders on it!
