This is a long post but this was my yearly trip to Erie to fish with a few good friends of mine. A good time was had by all. The weather was cool, 30's-40's, water temps took a dive with the snow melt and cool temps, I believe they went from 14 degrees C to 5-7 degrees. This in itself had the fish acting strange. Water was low and clear Wed & Thurs, light rain every day which brought the water up maybe 8 inches and slightly stained but no major run. Fish were pooled up but we found fish everywhere we went. The fish did spread out some by Sat. and Sun.

Elk Creek- We fished near Giard, Conrail tubes and Sterrettania(yes the fish are this far South right now). Fish found at all places. Stone flys, black ants ( who would have ever thought) and prince nymphs were the ticket. Only problem was we had to go to 4 lb tippet early in the week and broke many off. With a little walking we were able to fish holes all to ourselves which was nice.

20 Mile- This was my favorite creek of the week. I spent Thurs. afternoon just north of I-90 and absolutely loved it. Lots of pocket water with plenty of fish. This was absolutely beautiful and I only saw 4 guys all afternoon. The weather was cold and it started to snow at dusk. Only landed one with an Artic Fox clouser look alike pattern from the Aug. 09' Mid Atlantic Guide. It was cool to see this fish swim across the creek, chase it down and nail it. Other fish that afternoon that either spit the hook or broke off were on the usual prince nymph and black stone.

Walnut Creek- Only fished a few hours, fish were stacked in the Manchester and below the bridge but no fish to be found in the chutes. It was the usual circus and we did not fish it long. We did not venture south of there but I am sure there are fish way up the creek.

Overall a tough week fishing but we had fun. I only landed a few fish but just fighting them and having them spit the hook or break off is exciting too. I explored some new areas and learned more about this great fish. Once again our 30 fly buy in Poker game was a success, with the Outlaw taking second and winning 60 flys(finally won some of my flys back from over the years).

I too was very impressed with that stretch of 20-mile. I had never fished there until last Friday (10/16/09). I'll definitely go back.

Thats the most beautiful water I've found up there. Only problem is I've already gone up there and saw 6, yes 6, in the entire stretch.
It can be hit or miss, but almost always worth atleast a look.

I have heard that it can be hit or miss also but I was also told that some of the fish are very hard to see. It was some very beautiful water. I will definately be going back.
