Time Fished: 7pm - 720pm
Weather Conditions: 47 degrees, Overcast
Water Conditions: 42 degrees. Flow was heavy. Water was stained
Insects: Midges
I took a drive down to check the water temp. No one was camped and no one was fishing until I reached the end of the DH area. An Amish gentleman was in the last hole before it turns to open water. He was only there because he was waiting for his ride back to camp. Had been dropped off at 9am and now it was 7pm. He caught a brown, lost another and had maybe 6 strikes all day.
After checking the temp, I gave the gentleman in his late 50s some flies since he only recently rekindled his interest in fly fishing after taking it up in his teens. I then made about 20 casts in 2 different holes just to get a read on the level of fish activity. I caught 1 brown on a streamer and, not surprisingly, that was the only strike. With the weather coming over the next few days, East Hickory may not get much warmer anytime soon.
