East Fork San Gabriel River, Los Angeles County, CA 6/1/12

I know not everyone is thrilled about out of state reports here but I didn't know where else to post it and I wanted to share. I'm in Southern CA for about 3 weeks so I brought my gear with me. Beautiful day. Got 2 hours on the water before work. Didn't bring a thermometer so no temp but the water was a nice temp by feel. Sunny and about 70 degrees at that time of day. I got between 20 and 30 wild bows. Nothing bigger than 6 inches but hell, that's better than working! I've attached a couple pictures for your enjoyment. Going out with a guide Monday, so I'm hoping to post another report Tuesday. Much different fishing in desert mountains as opposed to our mountains back in PA but I still loved it. I hope you enjoy the post.

Love your report. Looking forward to the next. Heading out there in September to visit daughter who lives in Orange County. Are you sure that's where this river is located? Must be a huge county!!!!! Was planning to fish some streams in the San Bernardino National Forest near Big Bear, but may change now.

When our members who share PA stream reports wish to post about an out-of-state trip, we not only tolerate it, but welcome it. But you can always just go the General Forum and get the greatest exposure. Glad you had a good time and shared with the rest of us.

Yep - neat report on an area most of us probably don't associate with trout fishing. I enjoyed it - post some more pics and reports by all means.

Prof, I'm pretty sure it's OC but I'll confirm. I would point out that even though they call it a "river", it is about as big as Mud Run. Hopefully Monday we'll get over to the San Bernadino Mountains.

WG, I agree but I haven't found them yet. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh another thing, its in a national forest and you need a pass to park your vehicle. I think the pass is $5 a day. I just got a $30 annual pass since I'll be out here so long.

Not that it's important, but this is from a report by the State:

"The East Fork of the San Gabriel River (East Fork) is located in the Angeles National Forest, a forest under the jurisdiction of the United States Forest Service (USFS), in Los Angeles County,
California. The East Fork is located about three miles north of the City of Azusa and provides a relatively pristine area for recreation."

Wow, LA County. I did not know that. I would have sworn it was OC. Well, there you go. Maybe one of the Mods can change it in the title. 🙂
