Man, they should rename this place Chub Creek! ;-)
Got there around 10:30 and parked at the north end bridge and started heading south. Passed another FF'er in the parking lot and he said he had no success and barely even saw a fish.
Started with an 18 BWO and caught a sweet tree limb with that and it broke off, then switched to an 18 fly that looked just like the small white things that were flying around here and there (forget the name). Over the next 5 hours, I had about 9 or 10 hits on the fly from rises, but despite my pretty quick reactions, none hooked. After working two good pools for this time, I finally walked through just to see what was up with the fish, and I think I figured out what the problem was. I saw about 60 chubs and maybe four TINY trout (4 inch or less). Casting and watching, it was all a bunch of tiny fish attacking my fly. Darn things were nearly too small to get hooked! Finally a fish took the fly and low and behold it was a majestic 4" chub, lol.
I was calling in it quits and heading back to the lot when I came across another FF'er and he shared my EXACT experience. NOTHING all day except one tiny chub! At least that helped me feel better that it might just not be me and my techniques. That little fly I ha don there was a darn good match for what I saw flying around. I wonder what happened to all of the trout. I wonder if it actually got stocked as the PA site says it did.
I wanted to bang the bottom with a nymph for a bit, but I was too frustrated at the whole thing and needed to go get some food. I doubt it would have done mutch except annoy/entice some of the larger chubs anyway though.
Last, in case it helps anyone else, there were a million little black winged bug things hatching out on the rocks in the water. They just SAT there though...they didn't fly around and they didn't go into the water, so I didn't see any fish attempting to eat them. I did try and ant fly, but got no response at all with that.
