Water temp felt like around mid 50s when I fell in, air temp near 60. Fished two hours with a variety of nymphs without a tap. Have had some success on this creek over the course of this year with caddis imitations and pheasant tails, but nothing doing today. The creek appears to have a tremendous amount of insect life, but mediocre numbers of fish. I was fishing upstream of the bridge on 106 in Royal. I'd be interested in learning more about this stream, as it's right in my backyard. The upper reaches are on the Class A list, but the portion I fished is stocked in the spring.

Haa a tunker,Im down stream in nicholson,This is a funny body of water it takes untill may for things to get going and seems to shut down the beginning of september.I have caught some really nice trout(Browns and rainbow but you have to work for them.It get smallie crazy in the summer.I fish mid to large streamers most of the time if you cant turn a trout the smallies are a blast) PM me if you want to get togerther, I can dam near see the creek from work every day,(DONT GIVE UP ON HER SHES A FINIKY B)

I used to own a camp in Ararat and fished this stream regularly. I agree that May is it's best month. Nice hendrickson hatch in late April/early May near Smiley Hollow. Even caught some wild brookies in that reach (this is a stocked ATW). But I also agree the stream can be finicky. Another finicky but worthwhile stream in the area is Starucca Cr.

Starucca is a good creek... plenty of hold-overs and occasionally a few wild. Especially if you get out towards Stevens Point.
