Moseyed up to Hancock Saturday morning. Callicoon gauge was slightly out of the ideal zone so fishing party decided on floating the east which was looking good. Winds were low, overcast day, close to ideal conditions. Upper Delaware in May for me means head hunting and dry fly fishing, so this is one of those trip reports.
First roadblock - intended put in access was closed for the day. Ended up going further north and extending the float.
Put in around mid day - hendo hatch was on in a big way as soon as we hit the water. Fish were caught on dry flies early, but very few miles were covered. Executive call was made to leave rising fish to put miles between us and the launch.
That was a mistake. As soon as we pushed down, the bite was gone. We ran into a caddis blizzard but fish weren’t interested. Floated rest of the day down to the take out with few sporadic rising fish.
Day 2 - started slightly cooler than previous day, still close to ideal wind/weather conditions. There was a fog coming off of the river to start the day. System took on rain overnight, so decision was to continue floating the east as the conditions were good.
Similar to day 1 - fish were had in the earlier part of the day, but bite slowed down towards 3pm. Few sporadic risers later on in the day.
My buddy who floated with me is not a fisherman (amateur photog) but was kind enough to document a bit of the trip. These are his photos, so credit goes to him if you like them.
