East Branch Brandywine - Chester Co. 2/4/12

Air temp about 48. Didn't get the water temp as i didn't have a thermometer with me. Mainly overcast with brief periods of sun. Not much bug activity aside from a few midges and what I thought was a caddis but kind of unusual for February.

Fished 3-5 pm and got the skunk. Not even a hit. Worked a black bugger and BHPT in deeper pools. Fished below the delayed harvest section. I didn't really expect too much but it was nice to get out of the house for a while.

I saw a few other guys out on the stream. Was wondering if they read this forum and may have had a different outcome? They were more in the special regs section.

I wasnt out on east branch today, but I do end up fishing it once every other week or so. I would fish above the park.

thanks for the reply. I have been reading some of the other reports in this section and lets just say they are slightly more interesting reading than mine. Has it been worth your while when you have been to the East Branch lately? I don't want anything specific. I was just wondering if it's worth my time being it's so close to home. Fishing time has really taken a dent since we had our first child.

And do you mean Kerr park?

Not Matt but yes, I suspect he means above Kerr. I fish it here and there. If it's packed, I find another stream because there are so few spots that are holding fish right now, there are better options. That said, if you do find the stream to yourself, it can be worth it for a few hours. Like Matt, I like to go outside of the regs area from time to time. You'll find just as many fish in the deeper runs as you would inside the regs. They aren't chasing streamers at all. You have to dredge to get anything.

Thanks. I was dredging a bit this weekend but probably not deep enough. I have to tell myself all the time to add more shot and fish slower.

Kerr park is fun right after the trout derby, but other then that I tend to find myself up towards marsh creek ie old paper mill and up farther. Its a nice stream to get my line wet in when I only have a couple hours, but theres better fishing to be had within the hour or so radius from this area. If you want some other places to fish fairly close send me a pm.

EB sure hasn't evidenced much troutiness this year. I'm pretty sure the muskies that washed into EB from Marsh Creek Lake after a big summer rain/flood did a number on what trout were put in this fall. The Musky Club, motivated by the fact that 13" stocky muskies cost $50 per, finally persuaded the powers to let them net the big predators back out and put return them to the lake. I heard reports of a big musky got down to Kerr Park, which must have been a thrill for the wading kiddies (and their moms).

Hopefully they got most of them out so the spring stocking won't get gobbled up.

On more than one occasion I have been on the East Branch and have been stopped and asked if I had seen any Muskies or I have run into other fisherman who have said they have seen Muskies in the stream.

Are there any patterns that looked like stocked Rainbows?

Les you are right they did wash down into the eb after the flood. They where in there for about 4 weeks, and fishing was well in the whole stretch of the stream the whole time unless one came into the pool. The Tuplehocken runs into the same problem, ive seen a 3 foot musky swim right into a pool I was fishing in one time. Scary when your halfway in the water. The musky club was going in there pulling them out, and the state sent people to shock pools to get the majority of them out. There where a few 2-3 footers swimming throughout kerr park last year. I've always found the E. Brandywine a waste of time and I only live 2 miles from the creek. I would rather drive the extra 10 miles and fish the French or drive up to Reading and fish the Tully. I know I am going to catch fish on the Tully no matter what time of year it is.
