Dutch Fork Creek, DHALO, Washington County, 3/29/08

Fished on 3/28 and 3/29 at Dutch Fork Creek in Washington County. Temperatures in the mid to high 40s. Water had nice color to clear...

We fished from Rt. 40 down towards the bridge and caught trout or missed trout in nearly every fishy looking place. I had a kid, relatively new to the sport fishing with me...he hooked one of the largest trout I have seen come out of any PA Creek excluding Erie Tribs...must have been 22"...big hungry palomino...
He was so excited he dropped the cell phone in the creek trying to get a picture...Great Job Curly!

Prince Nymphs were killer...just about ran out of the pattern in those two days of fishing...

Nice outing, boss.

Stream reports are difficult to judge and to moderate. The site owner, Dave Kile, has posted two stickies at the top of the forum to give guidance. Generally, reports that merely state results such as "caught 12 fish" are frowned upon because they provide little useful information for other anglers.

The ideal stream report should list the location fished, time of day, air temps, water temps, water conditions (flow, color, etc.) bugs observed, effective patterns used, and any other information another angler could use to plan a trip. The title should list the stream name, county and date as yours does. This allows an angler to search or sort the forum threads and read about a specific stream, location or date.

As one of the moderators of this forum, I try to allow stream reports that contain any useful information. I will move threads that contain only a statement of number of fish caught. Your report does mention the fly pattern that was effective and the location and air temperature, so it qualifies to remain. Always give as much detail as you can or are comfortable with giving.

We want to encourage people to share reports, so we aren't terribly strict, but we also don't want the forum to be nothing more than a "brag-board." Your report was fine from that standpoint.

Good report..thats a stream I've always wondered about but since there isn't an alternative stream, in that direction in case it doesn't pan out, I never go. Might rethink that at some point.

Thanks for the tips...a nice alternative but not a PA stream is to head to WV and fish Buffalo Creek...or stay in PA and fish Enlow Fork which then offers a quick drive over to Dunkard Creek...great smallmouth fishing and only about 20 minutes from Dutch Fork...

Definately do not make a drive there in the summer...the creek dries up or nearly does most summers...not sure how it stays on the DHALO list with the summer flow...
