This is a double report on the FFO area of Dunbar Creek in Fayette County.
8/23/08:
Darryl and I fished the early afternoon, was on the water around 2:00ish, Stream was low, but not as low as it has been in the past few years at this time of year. Temps where in the 60's (still haven't replaced my thermo!) and the trout are in the deep pools. There wqasn't much bug activity other than midges. I didn't expect too much, for this was a trip to knock off the rust and it resulted in me getting skunked. Darryl on the other hand land 4 nice trout.
8/30/08:
This time Darryl and I fished the AM, was on the water at 8:00ish. A little more water in the stream this week and the temps seemed a little cooler. Fish are still holed up in the deeper pools, but there was more bug activity this time around. This was most likely due to the weather conditions, overcast and rain showers for the first hour or so. Lots of midges and a few small mayflies (BWO's?) These mayflies were the key to my limited succes on this day. I landed 2 nice Brookies and missed 10 others. When I actually made a good cast, ( see post in General Forum!) my super-human cat-like reflexes was setting the hook too damn fast and therefore missing the hookset! Just one of those days I guess. Darryl again landed four nice trout!
