Time Fished: 115pm - 3pm
Weather Conditions: 85 degrees, mostly sunny
Water Conditions: 54 degrees, Clear, Flow was good at about 550 cfs (450 is the median)
Insects: Caddis, a few brown stoneflies and a few mayflies
I fished the FFO stretch. Quite to my surprise the Cameron Co fairgrounds was being used for a metal detector event. Looked like even some competitive events were being run. Although it was a little strange, I just parked with the crowd and put on my gear and went to the stream.
I was the only one on the stretch so I walked to the first bend upstream, put on 3 wets and worked the fast water back toward the fairgrounds. I very quickly had a brown and then a rainbow (that had a snelled leader extending out of his mouth). Must have been in open water earlier in the year and someone released him.
As I worked the riffles there are some dead zones which are too shallow and I skipped but otherwise it’s good water at 550 cfs. I’ve been there with less water and it’s tough fishing.
I caught 3 browns and 2 rainbows on my wet flies. Then to finish up, I ran a streamer through a few likely holding locations and I caught another brown and a rainbow. So a total of 7.
There were some Caddis around but I only saw 2 rises and one may have been a fish chasing a nymph or pupa to the surface since it came about a foot out of the water.
I drove RT 120 upstream from Driftwood (20 miles?) and I only saw 2 vehicles parked where they would be fishing.
