donegal creek lancaster county 6/21/07

AH HA! my winning streak came to a storming halt today! i know a place in donegal creek where there is a 17-18 inch brown trout, along with tons of other trout. they are always rising down there and felt i could get into some good hatch action. the only problem is that this is the most pressured area of the stream. the fish get slammed hard everyday. well i got there and they were rising. eating cream midges i belive. i tried all kinds of flies:
BWO, adams, humpy, white wulff, caddis emerger, mosquitos, gnat, tricos, ants, stimulators, beetles, gray fox and the list goes on. i even tried my disco flashy bugger but to no avail. old sal comes home skunked for the first time in a long time! actually think the last time was last summer a letort. dont get me wrong the fish were rising and i even saw that 17 inch brown. thank god! its about time the fish beat me
i cant always win....
the water was looking good and the temp was 67. frustrating little trout they were tonight :-D

Sal...I believe you've done run out of Mojo after the spree you've been on...I can say I've NEVER caught three fish that big on the fly let alone in one week...Skunk probably never smelled soooo good.

what a difference a day makes! fished the ffo only project in the same area and got 5. 3 bows and two browns. went to the northern end of the ffo project and got 5 more. 4 bows and 1 brown. nothing big but nice fish. the flies that worked:
pink san juan worm, BWO size 18, sulphur compradun size 18, a trico dun with flash loop wings and a black body size 20(got 6 fish on this little thing) , and last but not least a olive bugger. unfortunatly the 17-18 inch brown i know of was tight lipped tonight. try again another day. planning on some brookie fishing this weekend. time to leave the big boys alone ;-)

side note: what the heck happened to the wild browns in donegal? i have caught a few of the bows but not the browns. also the number of wild bows is declining. just an observation. has any of the donegal creek regulars noticed this also. i had a conversation with the guy that owns the house at the red horse barn parking lot. he has noticed the same thing. not a good sign. :-( im going tothe next dfca meeting and im gonna join. worried about the wilds in this stream. :-(
