well now that im off layoff and back to work i have to fish the evenings like the rest of you gentlemen. :-D it is diffrent in many aspects and a trade off. in the mornings (when everyone is at work) you have the oppurtunity to have the stream by yourself and you get to the fish first. but in the evening you get great hatch action.
i parked at the red horse barn and went down to the "best" hole. the slow dryfly pool that the fish are always rising in. for those that fish the stream....you know the one im talking about. :-D
the fish were rising pretty steadily. i caught probably the biggest brown i ever caught in donegal. he was about 17-18 inches complete with the hook jaw. i dont know if he is from this last stocking because of his beautiful color and perfect fins. i caught him on a size 18 BWO dun. unfortunatly my wife has the digital :-( so no picture!i landed another 2 browns on sulphur compraduns and the regular dryfly dun. on the sulphur i had many takes. or close takes. i just couldnt hook up. one i did long release but i dont count him as caught. :-D
only fished one hole from about 7:15-8:20. really good action though. again i want to express how proud iam to be a part of the flyfishing community. a really nice gentlemen came down the path and we had a conversation of about 15=minutes. the free exchange of flyfishing information a value very dearly. he expressed what flies he had luck with and we talked streams and other fishing intrests. one thing i commented on was how i only caught browns in that hole. we both thought that to be strange because it was full of rainbows not long ago. thank you for the information u shared scott.
anyways, i had to ask him if he comes to this website. he said sometimes and i mentioned my handle. he remembered me from the lititz run pictures i posted :-D i have had the oppurtunity to do this and never had. kinda funny that someone remembered me. :-D
after i felt like i got to know his fishing ethics through talkin to him, i gave him a good spot to go fishing. just remember scott....shhhh! 😎
i did notice that the fish in donegal are being very careful. i had a lot of fish rise up slowly ...i mean SLOWLY. it was painful to watch then they would open there mouth very slowly and just when you thought they had it.....and u raised up....the fish swims away quickly. i love fishing for highly pressured fish....these guys are smart! :-D
the water measured 67 degrees and the weather was sunny and clear. i gave him the hole at about 8:30. he insisted he didnt want to push me out.....and u didnt scott. i had my fun and now im watching hells kitchen. man i love this show! besides i gotta share that hole....someones always there, everyone should get a shot at it. its "our" ffo section of donegal. :-D hope u did well! man those buggers were risin hard. 😛
