Donegal Creek, Lancaster County, 10/25/14

Ever since my recent move back to Lancaster county I have been itching to get out and wet a line. I had some extra time on Saturday before a party my friend was having and decided to stay relatively close to home by going to Donegal Creek. Hit the stream from about noon till 2. Water was clear and with the sun shining over head there was plenty of visibility. Started with a while wooly bugger with no luck. Further down the stream I switched to a pheasant tail nymph with a green weenie underneath. The green weenie was the hot ticket, I started nailing the fingerlings cast after cast. I switched exclusively to the green weenie after a few catches. In total it was about 20 or so. So glad to have this great little stream close by.

Enjoy the fingerlings now because their existence will be short-lived... Then the future of the Donegal will be up in the air with regards to classification (Class A, C & R FFO, etc., etc.). By Lancaster County standards, it is a nice little stream to sling some flies on.

Stopped by the Donegal for a hour or so this afternoon because I was in the area. Water was crystal clear and extremely low. The bright sun overhead made conditions about as challanging as they could be. I did manage to catch a few of the RT fingerlings using some kind of a size 20 olive thread/dun CDC fly on top in the frog water. Lots of leaves on the surface of the water made dry fly fishing real interesting. However, it was just a beautiful fall afternoon to spend a bit of time on the stream. I'll take it.
