Donegal creek FFO sec. 10/15/09

It was raining steady so the water was murky like olive color but clear for the most part. I fished from 11 am to 2pm I headed up stream and tried numerous flies, hares ear, woolly buggers of all colors and sizes, royal wulff, royal trude, scud pattern nothing was caught. I didnt even see any fish.

They're there, believe me. I'm sure the weather had something to do with it, but if you parked at the red horse barn and worked upstream, that's your best shot at getting into some fish. Sal hooked up with a nice rainbow a few weeks back and the wild browns are there because I've seen them first hand.

Give it a shot on a nice, sunny day and go on top with a BWO or caddis...

well he was saying the fish population may be down due to poaching, I fished a lot of nice holes that should have been holding trout. Oh where can you park?? I may have been parked illegal hehe just maybe..

The more likely culprit is that fisherman better than you and I are taking the fish - herons. They are numerous on that stream and on occasion, you will catch a fish with heron damage.

Poaching does occur as I have seen worm containers and heard the stories. It is a fact, but relative to the amount of fish that are stocked, I believe a small portion of the problem in the FFO section.

You can park at the "red horse barn" on Donegal Creek Road. Park in the grassy area in front of the small building (enough for two or three cars), follow the driveway 50' or so and make a right at the gated access road. Follow that down to the bottom and fish up from there.

I spoke with a local who lives on and fishes the stream constantly. He stated that this has been the best year in memory for catching stream-bred brown trout. I fished with him for a bit one day and he caught a little 4" brownie.

Im guessing you talking about that little farm that has no fishing posted and is 50' up from where the FFO section starts right? Do you know if this stream gets a fall stocking? Does it get better the father you go up?

No fall stocking Unfortnately.

No, the horse farm is on Donegal Creek Road, kind of in the middle of the FFO section. As noted, park there and walk down the driveway. At the gated road, turn right and follow that and you will see the stream. If you get to the satellite dish, turn around or to the left to reorient yourself 🙂

Thanks that was very helpful. I plan on fishing this stream again tuesday or wednesday both days are supposed to be sunny.
