Fished the Donegal, only my second trip there, last was probably 10 years ago. Was in the area and didn’t have an access pass to Lititz Run, so gave Donegal a go. Air temp was 64*, water temp was 60*, wafter color was perfect with that limestone tinge to it. Fish were active, with splashy rises. Couldn’t tell exactly what they were feeding on, as nothing was immediately evident and I didn’t have a sieve. Nothing on a caddis nymph and then I saw a yellowish mayfly in the air. looked like a lLT Cahill, size 14. Too big for a sulphur and too early in the day. Anyway, my dry cahill was routinely ignored. Dropped tippet to 6x, same result. Tried swinging a wt hackle in the film -no luck. Went back to nymphing with a Float indicator and they went wild. On the indicator. Clearly not native fish😀. An Emerger nymphh picked up a couple, as did an olive Walt’s worm. For fun, took on a PMX for the indicator fly and a version of a green weenie and that was the ticket. Ended up with a dozen browns, 12-14” length, and in perfect health to the net. Really a fun day once I got it sorted out.
