Fished from state game land parking lot access trail up to a point well above the hunting lodge ruins. Using only dry flies, I enjoyed the cold, clear water -- about 60 F water temp in mid-august -- and hiking along the stream. Not much of a pocono tea tinge to water, maybe none at all. Bugs were bad - in your face / in your ear gnats. Caught a few nice brookies, a nano-brown or two, and one surprisingly big brown in a small hole well above the hunting lodge ruins. Fishing dry flies without leader drag and with stealth here is a bit of a challenge, the currents are pretty fast and the clear water lets the fish see you. Saw a bigger fish or two, and broke one off, I assume these were browns given the size. To go after a lot of small brookies, I think that you might do a lot of rather rugged hiking/climbing and emphasize the last and narrower area before DHC leaves the state game lands.

Glad you had a nice time on the stream. It's a rough one but it's fairly typical of a wild mountain stream. Oh, how big is surprisingly big? Just curious.

that one brown trout was probably only 12-14", or about the size of bigger brown from the Chesterbrook parts of Valley Creek. It seemed bigger because it charged out of a rather small hole well above the hunting camp and up there I expected brookies.
