Delaware River, Bucks County - 7/9/16

Fished dusk around Calhoun St Bridge.

Started above the bridge. Water seemed pretty flat but made my way upstream to the rock island nearest the PA side. Got one smallie in the channels between a couple boulders there. Couldn't rise much else around the different falloffs on the flats there.

Went downstream of the bridge and crawled down the embankment a little ways down where the larger island created some riffles. Caught another nice smallie but was getting dark and didn't want to wade out at dark since I don't know this river.

I didn't see much bait moving about. Did see quite a few dragon flies and some large carp sounding in front of the bridge.

Was a nice calm night before the storms opened up after dark.

Depending upon what lures you are using, you should expect to catch small stripers as well at that location.

Is there structure they generally lay in? Deeper channels?

I'm still trying to figure out where it's safe to wade etc... Seems like a fun area to explore tho.

Channels, not necessarily deep, could be productive. Likewise the areas around the confluences of larger, cooler streams. Adult stripers, for instance, seek cool water near cool river trib mouths in summer.

The "schoolies" up to about 18" long can be found in many habitats...the upper ends of pools come to mind as having been one of the places where one of my former colleagues used to catch them. Fifteen to 18 inchers can be a lot of fun on lighter tackle.
