Sorry for the delay in posting, I fished the DHALO section of the stream. I have been there probably 3 times in the past month and it has fished well consistently. The flow was average and the water temperature was in the mid 40's. No bug production to speak of. I have a few more reports to follow. One photo attached of the best fish for the day.

Nice bow for deer creek! I have been going up regularly recently and catching some fish, but have not been as successful as usual. There was some surface activity at dusk last night. Have you been fishing any patterns out of the ordinary smitty? Also, I have been fishing deer creek for years and never find aquatic life under rocks; does anyone else find this to be the case? Thanks!
I caught the fish in the photo on a size 16 BH flashback pheasant tail. I have had a large amount of success using a LL Bean bugger pattern called a "thin mint". I am not sure what the reason for the success but I have caught dozens of fish on the below streams over the last month:

Have you ever really looked for nymphs of any sort on deer creek? I have never found anything on that stream, so I am curious to know what their diet consists of.

Just wanted to say that I found some interesting mayfly nymphs yesterday in deer creek in the DHALO. They ranged in size probably anywhere from 24-14 and were black/grey with white segmentation. If anyone fishes here, its just something to consider.

Never fished this area before. How is the access?
Rant.. I fished montana last year, caught well over 100 fish and didn't lay any of them on the stream bank. A better picture would be, underwater, on top, or in a regulation net (top view).
really, protect our passion please. People have no idea the infection it can cause trout.

Smitty...nice looking fish. I met you at the Meadow DHALO the day before opening day. I was the guy in the parking lot with the big beard.
I fished some other sections of Deer this year but I couldnt seem to compete with wax worms and powerbait to my left and right (thats my excuse this time). Thats why i always end up back at the DHALO section. Now is the time to go because that stream gets low and hot fast. I dont think that any of those fish survive the summer....plus I've come very close to getting tagged by an errant golf ball...possibly on purpose. It sounds funny, but I'm being totally serious. keep your head up if there are hackers out.

That being said protecting an asset that is placed by man and has a maximum life expectancy of maybe 3 months in a stream such as deer creek I am not sure if my laying the fish on the bank really makes a large difference. Your point is well taken and i would have my net if I hadn't left it in California at a friends, it is probably time to break down and buy a new one.
