Fished for the first time on this creek because of the positive reports on this website. At first I fished Sawmill Park 2:00pm. Water was cool clear, and day was overcast with a few raindrops. Not much insect activity. With no expectations, I found a suitable pool, and got a strike fairly quickly - an 11"-12" holdover brown. I kept trying the pool with no luck. I moved up to the big pool below the bridge, where I saw another holdover brown strike and miss, and then wouldn't strike again. I also saw a goldfish.
I then moved upstream. to where a trib. crosses Darby road. I hiked upstream a half a mile through brush, checking out pools along the way. There's not much water in that part, so I had to avoid spooking them. Several flat areas produced nothing, so I kept going. Didn't see any posted signs, so all's well. Caught a fallfish at the confluence of the two tribs there.
About 500 yards up, I found one pool to fish with overhanging branches. I crouched and managed to cast under them, but my fly landed out of sight behind a stump. I let it drift and a 9-10" rainbow came out of the hole. Nearest stocking point downstream is probably the park, so this bugger wriggled his way a good bit up. I caught a fallfish there - which was fun.
Good trip - tough, brushy hike, but the one rainbow I caught made it worth it. Legal? I don't know, but the one dirt road back there had fresh tire tracks, so I "blended in". To anyone seriously looking to catch fish, I'd try a little farther downstream where there's more suitable habitat.
