Darby Creek, Delaware Co. 5/17/2011

Fished the "Dog Park" from mid morning to late afternoon. Mixed rain and drizzle and some patches of almost sunny weather. Water was high and muddy; some visibility however. Temp. (water) was 61, and it was running clearer when I left. The conditions were perfect for nymphing by then, but the battallion of fish killers made my decision to leave a no brainer. I had the whole place to myself for a couple hours, and fished from below the dam to the waterfalls above. No real hatches, but my trusty bh caddis racked up a pretty good score. Lost a couple mid size fish and landed a bunch to 14''. A good fishing fix, and close to home as well. Oh, caught a 15'' smallie that didn't fight a lick, which was a little strange.

Meat hunters in Darby Creek? Wow... being a Delaware County native and having familiarity with that area I wonder who in their right mind would eat a fish out of Darby Creek.

Now that you mention it there was a wierd small in some areas, kind of like raw sewage. However, there was apparently a kids derby this past Sat. so the bigger fish weren't in there long, although there were still plenty of state fish left. I'm assuming these guys eat their fish, though one angler bothered to put a nice sized rainbow on his stringer and then left in on the bank.

Hi VC, I live just about a 1/2 mile from that section. I hear that the fish in the derby were really of poor size. If your looking for some good fish, check out Chester Creek in Brookhaven. Im on the Board of Directors of DCF&S club. We also had a derby the same day as theirs. But we put in 15"-25" size fish. Browns, Brookies and Rainbows. Check out the area near the Brookhaven Swim club. Ill be there tomorrow if your not doing anything from about 8:30 till arount noon.

Am I invited????? LOL. Mooney, do you park in that huge open parking area along Creek Road? Drive by there all of the time, but never fished it.

Mooney, Thanks for the info; I was aware of that stocking but haven't fished Chester at all this year; it's been really high every time I've had a chance. Also, I'm working in Chester Co. a fair amount. I know that stretch well, and enjoy some of the faster runs. Hope the high water continues to protect some of the fish. Eng Prof; you can park in that huge lot or a little farther north along Creek road.

Well if you ever see a red F-150 with a cap, thats Me. Oh, I caught a beautiful 2 1/2lb rainbow yesterday!!
