Water on the lower average side. Don't know about the water temp. Two or three other fisherman out. Smaller fish were consistantly rising every few minutes to something.
They passed up an ant and Griffith gnat so they beat me there.
I then targeted a specific fish thats been in the stream for about a month.
Ive tried for this fish before multiple times and got nothing but a look. 9 times out of 10 when the flies would drift towards him he'd dart away.
After about half an hour i was about to lose the battle again until i seen a few small red eggs on the ground. I picked one up and threw it in. I seen him dart towards it and possibly take it.
Thinking to myself, You've got to be kidding me, i picked up another and plopped it right in front of him, he rose and engulfed it.
Thinking of either how stupid the fish is or i was all these times i quickly tied on a small micro red egg. First cast i rolled it right in front of him, he slowly rose and inhaled it. BAM! Fish on.
He then made the biggest aerial maneuver i ever saw. He had to of been almost 10 feet above the water. After that jump he basically swam right towards me. Upon taking my picture of him i thought to myself, this fish has been in here for such a long time surviving on who knows what. And i grabbed him and ran upstream in the shadier more wild like section of the stream where its mostly rapids. Hoping to place him in a good spot to where he might possibly survive the summer i couldn't find a pool big enough.
With temps rising i was sure he wouldn't last much longer in the warm bait pool. Upon wondering what to do figuring if i left him in the rapids a heron or net would eventually take him he flopped out of my hands and smacked the ground.
At this point he didn't seem to be feeling all to well so i decided id just end his misery. At least i could figure out what this guy was apparently living on.
upon arriving at my friends dad's house to give him the fish i checked his stomache contents. And to my amazement, there was 2 things and 2 things only. Two red eggs that i threw at him.
And thats todays story.
I still find it amazing of the 20 different flies ive drifted at this fish he took something i would of least expected at this point.
