Some excellent early spring fishing! Much better than I anticipated, I think the rain gave the water temp the boost needed to get them a little active The girlfriend a buddy and I set off on a three day 7 mile hiking and fishing trip fishing cross fork! weather was very wet and a little cold. Especially having no coat or tent( I think I have been watching man vs. wild too much haha) But after fashioning a lean2 and taking a shot or two of whiskey the rain didn't seem too bad. just hiked on friday. Fished most of the afternoon on Saturday, picking up about 12 brookies between the three of us. Sunday when that warmer rain water started bringing the creek up and just ever so slightly off color, the bite was on just as the creek began to rise, as the brookies seemed to lose their waryness. Fishing almost all day we probably Doubled our total on sunday with max size fish being about 8". All were caught on small weighted streamers 10's and 12's in assorted paterns. As cross fork became too high to safely wade we gathered up and headed back to civilization. what a bummer!
