Why are they so popular in the UK while barely noticed in the US? Your thoughts please - photos of a few I’ve tied but never fished

Usually used on stillwater for trout. Not much of a thing in PA. Used to imitate HUGE (size 10-12 wet fly) midges that we don't have here.
They also do double duty for small forage fish etc. they are tied in a bunch of color combinations and yes usually for lake held stocked fish where you pay to play
