Cool Spring Creek, Mercer County, 4/8/12

I managed to bring in 2 rainbows and 1 brown. There were a few rises, lots were chubs and shiners I noticed, but some were from trout also. Didn't see many bugs hatching. I tried dries and didn't get anything, tried nymphs and only got one hookup and lost it. Got a bunch to chase streamers but they all rejected my fly at the last second(water was real clear so they got a good look at my fly). Then I finally tied on a small egg. I never used to fish eggs much, but they seemed to become one of my go-to flies for stockies this year. Ended up getting all my fish on the egg. I even hooked up with a nice big rainbow in the 20in class and lost it. I saw my fly drift down to the fish, my fly dissapeared into its mouth, and after a few head shakes and a short run my line broke! I don't remember the last time I lost a fish due to the line breaking, must of tied a bad knot and ended up learning my lesson the hard way. Still had a blast as always.

streamerguy, what time were you there? I was there in the morning with my gilrfriend, she caught more than me! my red truck with cap was parked in the lot. we left early afternoon. there was a yellow jeep there when we left and a hummer along the road by the big rock hole. I fished it 3 times last week, thurs evening was the best, got 8 in two hours swinging wets, saturday was slower, and sunday was slower yet. I guess between the pressure from other anglers and the water getting lower and lower is putting the fish on guard.
looked to be some leftover grannoms flutter about, especially on thursday. didn't notice anything else hatching.
it rained a little today, but only for 20 minutes. we need a nice all day soaker, all our streams look like it's august!
think I'll go chase some bluegills this saturday and leave the streams to the loonies.

I was there in the afternoon, I think I got there around 2 or 3. I parked at the gate by the big rock also, and fished up to where the stream opened up by the one house. Didn't cover a lot of water, just fished the same 2 or three runs the whole time I was there which wasn't long. I agree the water was pretty low, which didn't help at all. I fished Neshannock on Sat. and thats getting low too. I noticed a bunch of bugs on Neshannock, some caddis(not sure if they were leftover grannoms or not), and some real light colored mayfly. Looked kinda like a cahill or sulfur, but I'm not very good with bugs. We Need rain!
