Conodoguinet Creek Cumberland Cty 4/29/12

I fished for a couple of hours at the little park across from where the Letort joins the Conodoguinet.from Noon to 2:00 PM.

The fishing was pretty good as there were suphurs, caddis, and crane flies out and about. Fish were rising along the bank below the Letort. I wasn't sure what to expect and halfway thought they would be chubs or fallfish.

I wound up landing 9 small wild browns and LDR'ing several others. I did miss a better fish of about 14 or 15 inches, twice, on both a sulphur parachute and comparadun.

I didn't cover much of the stream because the dog was sitting in the truck in the parking lot and there were other people around so I stuck close by.

I did see fish raising further downstream and I spoke to another fisherman who was spinfishing. He decided to go home and get his fly rod because the fish were raising all around him.

Nice report Tim. I kinda suspected the Connie had a limited year round wild Brown population in/around the mouths of its limestoner tribs. Pretty cool to catch them like that...I woulda suspected Fallfish at first too...must have been a nice surprise when you brought that first one to hand.

Dear swattie,

The strange thing is the Letort is impassible about 30 feet up from where it enters the Conondoguinet due to a waterfall. The park is actually called the Letort Falls Park.

I'd bet $ 1000.00 that the fish I caught were all wild fish though. They looked like they were made in a mold as the fish I landed were only about 7 - 8 inches or so in length, but they were thick bodied and they had very little color to them. a dark back with silvery sides and some larger spots including some bright red spots, was how they looked. Their fins were perfectly shaped and reddish orange in color, and their heads were small.

They were neat little fish though, here's a picture of an upside down one.

Yeah, no question that's a wild Brown. It looks similar to a Letort Brown too, sparse spot pattern...could be washdowns as fry or fish that purposely migrated downstream and then couldn't get back up. I definitely think they could survive in the Connie year round if they stay close to the Letort's mouth in the Summer.
