Fished the Jig through Caledonia, downstream from the park area on Friday night. Arrived at about five pm and fished to dark (8?). There were a number of spin fishermen in the park, so Dad and I headed down stream.
Didn't get a stream temperature, but it felt nice and cold. Flow was actually a bit low for this time of year, but still fishable. There has been a lot of streamside work done since I was in this area over a year ago. Still plenty of little riffles and runs, with an undercut bank or log here and there.
On my second drift, along one of those undercut streamside logs, I hooked into a really nice 12-14 inch brook trout on a bead head olive caddis nymph. Managed to get him to hand and quickly released. After that, Dad and I focused on the few slower pockets were there were scattered fish looking up. There were crane flies in the air, a few small black stoneflies and Hendrickson spinners with their huge egg sacks. We managed to catch about six more small brookies on Hendrickson dries.
Overall, it was a great start to our weekend outing. We also fished Big Spring on Saturday morning, the stream through the old Chambersburg Reservoir on Saturday afternoon and Antietam Creek in Waynesboro yesterday. I'll post those reports separately. Did manage to get some pics, but haven't gotten them off the camera yet. I'll try to get to that tonight.
