Codorus Creek York, York County, 7/24/12

Hi All,

Fished the Codrus in the town of York this past tuesday. fished from 10:30 til 2:30pm, air temp in upper 80's nice breeze, water temp cool and refreshing, most likely in 70's but not sure, but not really warm like many creeks right now. Fished above and below the bridge on Grantly Street near York College.

Was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fish: SMB, LMB, green sunfish, Rock Bass and 1 Crappie. All fish caught on hopper or olive WB and micro WB. Largest fish was 12 inch SMB, caught about 10 SMB, 5 LMB 3 rock bass and lost count of greens.

All and all i was pleased with results, fished same place 1x last summer just landed rock and greens.

Also plenty of carp easy to sight and can get very close if approach from downstream. Hooked one with 4# tippet on WB broke of almost as soon as hooked.

Will try again soon at morning or eve.

You'll find walleye upst from the Grantley St bridge. Most will run 11-13 in. You should also be able to catch rock bass up to 9 in. long there along with redbreast sunfish up to 6.5 inches long. Bluegill and greens are also present, along with the occasional SMB. The SMB, RB, and RBSF populations are better at Rt 30, but walleye are fewer. The SMB and WE continue to improve in a downstream direction from Rt 30 and channel cats appear in pretty good numbers (and a few flatheads) by the time you reach North Sherman St. RBSF, RB, and SMB decline substantially near the mouth, but c cats and WE are still present in good numbers, along with the occasional flathead.

not 100% on my sunfish id, still learning all the stream sunny's.

The more I fish Codorus creek the mre i like it. I live 100 feet from the south branch and know plenty of spots to catch wild browns all year on S.Codorus as well as TT section. Thye smallmouth fishing starts to get really good on S. Branch 6 miles from home, and I am still exploring.

The one dead spot I have fund is near the creeks mouth, near Codorus furnace, fished it 2 x last year and nothing, not a hit, didn't see fish at all not even carp. beautiful streatch of river, lts of rocks, god current, thusands of crayfish, i mean every step you take scatters 10 crayfish, more evidence that nothing is down there feeding on them.
