I just had to get out for a few hours today. I've been wanting to get on some wild trout for a while.
I brought with me two rods, my TfO 7'3" 2wt finesse because I love the way it cast small flies and the fight it puts into small trout. But more appropriately, I decided on using my 7' 5 weight.
The Codorus is just lined with brush, briars, stinging nettles and vines. There is zero room for a backcast so most casts are tight roll casts often backhanded with sticks or some sort of crap in the way.
The shorter rod has more back bone and I can roll cast chunkier nymphs/ crayfish / buggers to those undercuts on the far bank. While the two weight is lots of fun its just not as versatile a tool as my cheapo 7' 5wt.
I saw rises immediately upon arriving streamside. Some little ones coming up and a few slightly bigger ones. It was overcast, muggy, but the trout were happy feeding.
Not really anything coming off but I managed a couple small browns on hand tied brown and black ants. Missed a few others on the ants and a crayfish pattern. I had nice hard take on the crayfish and got excited sending my line into the briars. The fishing petered off when the sun came out and the trout all seemingly vanished.
Always fun sight fishing, looking for rises and tryin to find that line, then watch a wild brown dart up from near where you thought it was, to grab a little fly you can barely see from the bank.
