Today after work I decided to head to the FFo section of Clarks seeing as how I haven't been there in a while.
Now, usually I take a camera w/ me incase I catch a really nice fish or see something interesting. Of all day to NOT have my camera on me it would have to be today :-?
I walked down to the stream from my truck and started just upstream of the hole I wanted to be at. Missed 2 in the riffle on the first 5 casts. I then worked my way down to the hole I wanted to be at. After a few dozen casts and plenty of rises I finally hooked onto a nice sized brookie. Then things got intersting.
I have cell phone that has an FM tuner in it and I had the headset on 1 ear listening to 105.7 the X when I heard a nice sized snap of a twig. I couldn't tell if it was in front of me on the opposite side or behind me. I kept fishing. I was at a place where there is a nice "S" curve in the stream.
2 minutes later a nice sized (around 500 lb or so) black bear came walking up stream on the opposite bank from behind a fallen tree. I kept fishing expecting him to move along once he had seen me. (I had to loudly cough so he would know I was there and not be startled).
Instead, he dissapeared behind the tree for a bit and then came out from behind it and walked right up to the stream bank directly accross from me. I didn't move or freak out, just kept fishing.
This damn bear sat down and watched me fish for about 3 minutes or so (felt like an eternity).
Eventually he moved on upstream looking for food and digging. I too had to go upstream to get back to the trail to the truck so I slowly stayed behind him so I could keep and eye on him till I got to the trail.
What a day. Every once in a while you get lucky enough to catch something a majestic and that while in the serenity of a trout stream.

Gees, I guess I won't be fishing there for awhile. I often fish alone, would not like to come face to face with that beast.

It's not the first time I've seen a bear fishing. I usually run into them up at my cabin in Tioga County. First time at Clark's though. I know they're there, just never saw one. Was a nice suprise.
There has been only one documented black bear attack in PA. (don't want to be #2) But as long as you play it cool they'll leave well enough alone.

I ran in to one with Boyer at slate. It's scary but it wouldn't keep me at home, albud. Go fish. The bears don't want to hurt you, they're more concerned with not letting you hurt them.
