Clarks Creek, Dauphin County, 9/5/2010

Fished from about 2 till dark above the FF section. Lost count on how many fish. I think the cool weather turned em on. Most took the green weenie dropper and some on top with a large black ant or a adams. Best outing this year for me on Clarks. I didn't see another angler all day!

Having been there in a long time, how does the water look( probably low and clear). Did you take a W/T. Sounds like you did very well!

oops Dave, fished on 9/5 Paul. didn't get a wt, but it felt cold (I actually got the chills in the deeper pools. The water was low but had a little color to it (at least for Clarks).

They must have turned on overnight. My buddy and I were there Saturday evening, fished from 4-6:30 or so. Only caught on small brown on a beetle pattern. I had two rises, that was it. We were fishing just above the FF only section. Water was slow and low, but still quite cool.

I had very good action last night as well, all on beetles.
The color you see is the lake turning as it gets that kinda charcoal tint every year around now and I swear it helps the fishing.

Little help Please!!
I been up the Clarks three times in the last month. I've been fishing the upper section of the FF only area. The fish are stacked in there and rising often. I have tried every fly I own, both dry & wet.
Anyone else been there having any luck?

It appears whatever they are hitting is just beneath the surface. I cannot see anything on the surface but they are breaking the surface to feed??

Try a dry dropper rig. Maybe a medium sized foam beetle or caddis dry on top, and any smaller nymph or pupa pattern or maybe wet ant on the dropper. The pattern is really not that important, just keep the dropper pattern small (size 18 or smaller) and use dry just large enough to float the nymph and remain visible.

Most importantly, work on not spooking the fish and getting a good (drag-free) drift.

Thanks. These fish are driving me nuts! I've had luck with fish in the faster water but these fish just lounging around in the pools rising to who-knows-what are driving me crazy.

I've been fishing Clarks Creek's FF section pretty regular since December of 09'. This is one of my favorite creeks and its lanscape is simple and beautiful. With that said I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on the water ABOVE the FF section? I've only ever made it upstream from the FF Start Point about 100 yards and that was in the winter. My main questons on this stretch are basically the quality of water and the quantity of fish. If anyone could share some info with me on this I would greatly appreciate it.
Oh... if anyone has any info on the streams section located off the Appalacian Trail further up Clarks Valley Road that would be AWESOME too!

The whole stream is good and there is always plenty of fish in Clarks. The best thing is to explore those areas.
