Clarks Creek, Dauphin County, 8/14/09

Fished the C&R FF only section of Clarks from 1 to 5pm today. The weather was clear and sunny with air temps in the low 80s. Didn't get a water temp - oops.

No visible hatch, but there were several ants on the water surface, and many fish were rising on arrival. Managed to catch four - three browns and a brookie - all on dries (ant and mosquito/midge). One of the browns was a healthy 18" male. Beautiful fish. The brookie's colors were splendid. If I had any clue how to post pictures I would.

This was my first time to Clark's Creek, and I was very pleasantly surprised. After a rough morning at Stoney Creek, the clear, smooth water at Clarks was much more "fishable". There are TONS of trout in that stretch with a good mixture of riffles and pools. By the time we left at 5pm, there were no more rising fish. I'll bet that 's a great place to be during a spring hatch.

I saw some small burgandy colored mayflies caught in a stream side spider's web. Are there any reliable hatches on Clark's?

Anyway, we had a good time. Only ran into two other fishers all day, and they were on the way in while we leaving. I'll definitely be back. Wanna try some of the brookie water further upstream.

Brookies are scarce, but decent numbers of wild browns can be found. The water above the lake is pretty low now. PM me if you would like some information

When I lived in Hbg, Paulg and I fished Clarks regularly. Clarks does not have heavy hatches, but the trout come up for flies readily. The heaviest hatch of the season was always the sulphurs. The best one for fishing was the March Brown! Another great hatch is the mosquito, but the stream can be unendurable during that one.

Clarks is generally very cool thanks to it's being a tailwater. So it can have its hatches a little later than the surrounding streams.

The FFO water is nice but the whole stream fishes well. Check out the sections above the project water too. I guess everyone has their favorite spots, but really the whole stream is good so do explore it. Not to say that it's a "destination" stream or anything. Trophy fish are few or non existent. But it's a really pretty place to fish, close to Hbg.

I just moved to Duncannon two weeks ago and have been scoping out the streams around the area. I really enjoy fishing at Clark's Creek and Stoney Creek. Especially Clark's Creek. Very dope sick! Would anyone be interested in doing some Dauphin/Perry Co. fishing anytime soon?
