I've been fishing Clarks since the mid 1980's and never caught a chub. Maybe they are coming up from the Susquehanna to spawn. I did fish there last Wednesday and saw dozens and dozens of small white suckers podding up in the pools and am wondering if maybe Dalta Dog was catching some of those suckers underneath and thinking they were chubs.

Let me just say I dnow the differance between chubs and suckers. A blind person would be able to figure that one out. I've caught THOUSANDS of chubs on the rod and in the siene for bass,walleye and catfish. Besides I dont know about you but I never saw a "SUCKER" take a dry fly or chase a wolly bugger 20ft for that matter. But hey I guess you Clarks Creek "EXPERTS" know better than I do Right. If that floats your boat have at it.

I think WB was just offering another possibility based on his experiences on Clarks. I think his second sentence allows for the possibility that they were in fact Chubs. Don't think he was questioning your fish ID's Delta.

This has no bearing on what you were hooking into, but I did catch a White Sucker on a Joe's Flies spinner once...so they will chase stuff, although I agree, that's not usually their MO.

I've never caught a chub on Clark's either......BUT I'M NOT DOUBTING YOUR WORD OR FISH ID ABILITIES (the same can be said for the above posters trying to figure it out.)

My guess, they may have been washed down from the Dehart Reservoir during the flood from Tropical Storm Lee this past fall.

Did I say you didn't know the difference? Don't get so defensive. Admittedly I've never caught a sucker on a dry fly but have caught plenty on nymphs, Glo-bugs, dead drifted Woolly Buggers, and pretty much every other sub surface fly.

BTW I'm no expert on Clarks or anywhere else for that matter.

I would guess they are coming up from the river, as I've seen them below the dam, but never saw one above or in the dam. Just my humble observation.

Well I went back today and this is what I was catching yesterday. I caught this one in the same hole I caught the first 2 yesterday on a GG. This time it was on a FBPT. I caught 3 other ones besides this one bringing the 2 day total to 15 "CHUBS". I also picked up a few trout.

Nice pics Delta...our mystery fish is a Fallfish...100% certain. Relative of the Chub, both in the minnow family. If you're fishing the lower stretches of Clarks, closer to the Susky, I'm certain that's where they're coming from. The Susky is loaded with them. They can get pretty big, 18 inches or more and are decent fighters. They're very aggressive and will eat anything so it doesn't surprise me you're catching them on a variety of flies, both wet and dry.

Enough about the minnows...those are some good looking trout there. Do I see a small kype on that Bow? I love that first Brown. Add in the Brookie and I think that's a legit stocker slam. Not too bad for a guy who's only been fishing trout for a couple of weeks. Congrats dude!

Thanks Swattie.The ones I caught yesterday were a mix of fallfish and chubs. I only got 1 chub today and 3 fallfish. The one chub I did get would'nt pose for a pic. But for me any fallfish/chub less than 6-8in is a CHUB. Anything between 8 & 18in and its a FALLFISH. Anything bigger and it's a CARP.

Nice trout Delta. But I still have never caught a chub or fallfish on Clarks. The proof is in the pic. My luck, the next time down there I'll get all chubs and NO trout.

Fallfish for me are a common thing on Clark's. They are in there thicker then you think. They can be fun when the trout stop feeding. At least it's something pullin on the string.

I'd rather have nothing pulling on my string then them nasty things. On the lower end of Clark's I caught on and netted it and my net started foaming like it was acidic. Never saw that before then.

LOL! really? a fallfish or chub is really only a big minnow.
They attack a fly with gusto and fight as good as a trout. In the UK they are a prized fish to go after with a fly rod.
A couple days ago, I caught a huge one in Breeches. It must have been 16" and almost broke my 3wt!

That first rainbow is a beauty. It almost looks like it has some cutthroat genes in it.

Chubs and Fall fish are big trout food, so IMHO they are a good thing.

Way to go. All those chubs/fallfish does have a positive. More food for the bigger trout. Beautiful pix by the way.

I hate catching chubs! I have a rule, if I catch two chubs, I move on!

I do not fish Clarks that much, but I have caught at least one fall fish in the Delayed Harvest Section. I attribute my successes with the coarse fish to my excellent fly fishing technique.
