Summary: cold water, still some ice and snow, tuff fishing
Official air temp hit 51 BUT woods were snow covered and air temp near the water was 43. So it felt cold and was a bit hard to walk and a bit treacherous to climb down to the water cause the banks were icy and slippery.
The water was 35, clear as it gets, and medium level. Some areas along the shore still had ice that made it hard to wade especially since the banks were icy so could not just get out of the water anywhere to walk around the ice. Probably will be much improved by time anyone reads this but it was not favorable conditions and anyone going to a deep woods stream soon should consider the snow and ice are not gone like they are on your front lawn. And be careful not to ice skate and kerplush into the water. I am going to try some warmer streams next time.
Caught 1 trout which had to be the skinniest fish ever. If not for the clear water, would never have known it was a bite since it was very delicate and slow. Did not see many numbers of trout but did see a few others and had a few inspectors on streamers and egg patterns. They were also pretty lethargic in the cold water. All in all it seemed a decent number of fish made it thru the winter. Did not see any big ones (like I saw in fall) and would be curious what happened to them.
