I fished a section of the open water on Clarks Creek between the FFO area and Dehart this afternoon for about 2 hours. Conditions were pretty tough with the water being low and gin clear as is typical with Clarks. It was also a bluebird day with bright sunshine that didn’t help either. I saw a fair amount of fish that were stacked up in some of the long frogwater sections but they were next to impossible to fish for this afternoon. The water temperature coming out of Dehart in the stretch I was fishing was 51 degrees. I was swinging wet flies in the runs and riffles and only brought two small wild brownies to hand and missed a few others. Saw minimal surface activity but a few fish were working the surface in a couple areas. I saw what I think were some Hendrickson spinners working over some of the riffles but didn’t actually see any of them hit the surface. The two fish I caught both took the same bright green caddis emerger pattern. It’s been awhile since I fished Clarks and I’m glad I took the opportunity to check it out this afternoon. I’ve always enjoyed fishing Clarks, hemlock log jams or not!
