Clarks Cr, Dauphin Co, 5/12/12

Stopped to fish Clarks for about 20-30 minutes as I was passing through the area and couldn't resist the temptation to stop and see what the conditions were like. Seems like this creek never gets blown out. Went out to the regs section... Water was a little higher, still very clear. This was nice since the last time I was there every fish seemed to be stacked up in the pools, as the water was extremely low. This time the fish were spread out in pools, runs, and riffles. The creek is back in action! Lots of bug activity, lots of splashy risers as well. Not sure what exactly was coming off. Have to brush up on my entomology i guess haha. Anyway, whatever they were, I'd say were about a size 14 sulphur color, as well as the typical midges as always. Fish were very finicky this afternoon. Had some follows on a hairs ear, had a few look at a size 16 parachute adams, and fooled 1 brown on a size 20 red zebra midge. This guy came at the head of a pool, just below a nice riffle. Beautiful day to be out nonetheless. Didn't see anyone else, although i didn't stay for very long. Only covered about a hundred yards or so before I had to go to my friends daughters bday party. Gonna try and get out early tomorrow morning for a few hours, I'll try and put together a more detailed report.

Good job! What section were you on? I was up at the gun range lot and fooled 4 browns, 2 wilds on a 16 parachute Adams!

I didn't have a whole lot of time, so i just parked at the 1st pulloff at the lower regs section. I mostly fish up near the gun range and above. I think maybe i tied the hackle too long on my adams? I'm running low on my dry fly hackle, and didn't have anything to snip it when i was on the water. Good job on the wilds! I finally got my 1st of the year out of Manada a few weeks ago. Nice little rainbow about 5" that took a caddis larvae. Colorful little bugger tho!

There's a lot coming off there. I've been seeing tons of caddis. There seems to be a yellow stonefly hatch coming off throughout the afternoon. I've also seen some Sulphurs and what I believe to be light cahills. They look really cream almost clear.

Clark's has good March Browns. With the warm weather, are they now over?

Yes I was there Tuesday. Then wasted some gas driving to Manada which was also pure mud and bank full. Seems there was a 2-3 inch center of rain north of Harrisburg even though areas by me to south and west got far less.

does clarks get a Green Drake hatch? I was up the other day and saw a couple huge bugs emerge but never get a good look at them. I figure they were probably drakes because I don't think the march browns are anywhere near that big on that stream

Funny I saw some reaaly big bugs mixed with sulfurs above the lake on Sunday evening. I assumed march brownsor gray fox by their Color but couldn't grab one to see.

I've heard Dark Green Drakes, but never heard regular GD's.

I believe I have seen MB's above the lake as well.
