Caught a half dozen SM Bass today and went swimming to cool off,Driving around a couple tribs just look I came across one that had at least 20 fish between 15 and 20+ concentrated in the thermal refuge of this creeks cold water,, I pulled over near the trib and took a walk to check out the river on my way back I was looking at this little stream and saw a rise and then another,I snuck down behind some trees and thought I was looking into a hatchery ,big bruisers cruising around sipping bugs, I left them be in this harsh heat but will be fishing around this trib if not in the fall definitely spring time

That was admirable of you to leave them be.

No secret it's at clear Creek state park,I doubt anyone here would fish despite the tanks looming in there,it's a kids bobber fishing hole at best ,now when flows are up I'd fish the river around it for sure

They are there evey year and (unfortunately) people do target them. Quite interesting what's in there because it's quite a bit downstream (13 river miles) of the downstream limit of fingerling stocking.

Do they still stock fingerlings in the clarion?
I've always thought that t most of the trout in the river below Ridgeway, come in from the stocked tribs

Downstream limit of fingerling stocking these days (last 10 yrs at least) is Spring Creek, just up from Halton. Before that I think they stocked fingerlings downstream to Clear Creek, but it's been quite a few years. PA Fingerling Trout 2026

I'm not sure on the limits off distribution I figured maybe they were hold over from all the local creeks or Heath twp sportsman club stocking of the river, either way it's mostly a warm water fishery that far down, with survivors seeking these cold tribs, they definitely need left alone in these conditions, I've been this far down stream twice this year , first time in 4-5 years I'm usually above Ridgeway
